Just what is a Daredevil Kitchen, anyway? It's a jump-in-and-do-it-with-what-you've-got-without-thinking-too-hard attitude. It's also pop performance artist Mallory Moad's art ensemble with an ever-changing cast and crew. Her performances are public events which often involve audience participation. She says, "Audience interaction blurs the distinction between the viewer and what is being viewed." By staging pieces in unusual settings, she hopes to dispel the myth that performance art is elitist, pretentious and unapproachable. In a typically daredevil approach, Mallory often includes other artists in her work. "I especially like working with singer/songwriters because I often find a similarity in our creative processes. I enjoy sharing my space with them and including them as equals in the show." Mallory earned a BA degree in art from California State University, Fresno in 1980, where she studied under conceptual artist/musician Terry Allen. It was his influence that sparked her interest in performance art. She has staged original performances for children for the Fresno Art Museum and Fresno Metropolitan Museum. Mallory has been a participant in the Rogue Performance Festival since 2002 and was presented with the Rogue Independent Producer's Award in 2003. In a former life, Mallory was known primarily as a visual artist. Contact her if you would like to see some examples of that work. |
